Recent New Carlisle Disasters: Coincidences, or Something More?

The New Carlisle area has been the victim of several disasters just this month, prompting this writer to wonder if there’s something strange going on around town.

The spate of calamities includes:

A supercell tornado destroying several iconic Park Layne businesses

Wednesday evening, a massive supercell landed in Park Layne, wreaking havoc on Sunoco, Family Dollar, Community Market, Mel-O-Dee, and McDonald’s. The long term effects of the supercell aren’t yet clear, but it seems likely there will be an extended recovery period for the businesses. Thankfully legendary roast beef restaurant Ranchers emerged unscathed.

Taco Bell suffering extensive damage after an electrical fire

After fighting for decades to land its very own Taco Bell, New Carlisle settled for the next best thing: a Taco Bell just outside Park Layne (technically in Huber Heights). So you can imagine the heartbreak caused when an electrical failure caused the business to nearly burn down just months after opening.

The popular Facebook group “You Know You’re From New Carlisle If…” was home to a startling number of posts about the tragedy. The posts and comments ranged from jokes and memes to heartfelt declarations of love for the authentic Mexican restaurant.

The New Carlisle Pool banning the smoking of cigarettes inside the pool

In a move that has split New Carlisle residents down the middle, the New Carlisle Pool has moved to ban cigarette smoking from inside the pool property this season. Many residents are viewing this as an infringement on their personal freedoms. According to their views, a city government should not be able to mandate how healthy a person chooses to be, provided they are an adult.

This issue creates a slippery slope. The city has set a precedent that they may make unilateral decisions based on their ideas of what is best for the citizens of this city, rather than the constitutionally afforded rights in the United States Constitution.

A proposal to add turn lanes to Main Street downtown

A nefarious plan perpetrated by our city manager could lead to turn lanes being installed on Main Street in the downtown business district. If passed, this would cripple local businesses that rely on Main Street parking for their customers. It is simply unreasonable to ask paying customers to walk up to 100 feet in some cases just to spend their hard-earned cash locally. We should be doing everything we can to help small business in this town, not trying our best to run them out.

These are just the major headlines. In recent weeks we have also seen such horrible things as people passing stopped school buses without so much as a care for the children boarding or the parents filming with cell phone cameras. We’ve seen a woman attempting to get into strangers’ vehicles and drive away, with little to no response from the police. We’ve even seen Russell Crook post about a local meal he enjoyed at the American Legion. No matter how you slice it, these are troubling times.

Coincidence, or something more?

So what can we take away from all this? It seems difficult to believe that all of these things are just occurring in rapid succession without being related. Is there a cosmic force at work here? Is there a higher power testing our faith by giving us these trials?

I found this website by Googling “if Taco Bell burns down does that mean the world is going to end.” The site doesn’t seem like the ravings of a cultish bunch of lunatics at all, so I think I trust what it is saying.

It suggests that we are living in the end times, and that Jesus Christ shall return soon to judge all humans. Natural disasters (the supercell that hit Park Layne), the elimination of cash as a means of currency (Taco Bell accepted electronic payments before burning), and war (how else would you describe the fight to install turn lanes on Main Street) are all signs of the end of days. Not real sure where smoking butts inside the pool fits in, but I’m sure it does.

This site is so accurate it’s scary.

So what do you think? Is New Carlisle’s recent run of disasters proof that the end is nigh? Or are all of these events unrelated, with the timing being coincidental? Sound off in the comments and give us your opinions.

  1. Just odd that it only hit property that will affect the income in our small community. I hear Sunoco is not coming back. But by the grace of God no lives were lost. It was strange. It was odd out that night. I have lived her all my life 60+ years. Seen storm and a few tornadoes. But something about the sky that night. I felt safe yet somewhat worried that all my family & friends would be safe. I think God is giving us a wake up call. We all need to start being nicer and caring about other. I have watch this town come out and help people in need. Yet we close our eyes to the drugs, damaging of others property. We don’t go out of our way to be kind unless something bad happens. Ya I think God is trying to tell us all to wake up. Just my feeling

  2. I knows more about the bible then any body not wearing a pope hat and i just dont not think jesus is using his majic to take out a taco bell but ill bet he would of been as red faced as me when i went there and a WHITE kid named scott took me order at a mexico resterant!!! Trump hasnt build no wall yet so we is a young punk named scott taking me order and forgetting to put hot sauce in the bag a mexico resterant should be mexico people working there and there aint no mexico people who would ever forget hot sauce for a taco!!! I dont know if jesus ever went to mexico but i bet even jesus knows a taco aint worth half a god damn without hot sauce!

  3. also aint it kinda funny how all this vudoo stuff happens to Ranchers competitioners and they are just setting pretty!! how come the city would take parking for a turn road but Ranchers can have all there butt load parking! and the wind just happen to come threw all ruby red slipper like but not touch Ranchers!!! i also have smoked many time in the Rancher bath room and no city voter guy ever lawed on that!!?

  4. Wow you guys are not very informed. This kind of stuff happens in lots of places on much bigger levels (clears throat, JOPLIN, Missouri.) and now that it happens here y’all think it’s some biblical issue. As for the guy talking about “Mexicans should be working at a Mexican restaurant”, well you just take the cake. Learn how to spell dude and read some credible literature in order to educate your mind. Attempting to read this article followed by the comments below is scarier than the tornado was and I was nearby when it happened. This world is lost and trying to escape reality through fantasies and conspiracy theories.
