New Carlisle, famous for its yearly Festival of Flight and being the birth place of famous squint comedian French Stewart, has always been a quiet town. Some locals say it’s the quiet that kept the devil at bay, so they take noise complaints very seriously. That’s why the street bike gang that have laid their roots on Brookfield have created quite the kerfuffle.
The crew, made up of nearly five 20 year-olds, have made the quiet streets of NC their training ground for poppin’ wheelies, makin’ burnouts, and trying to break speed records. It’s not just the danger of riding at such fast speeds that has the town in turmoil, it’s the noise of the bikes.
“I know my second amendment rights very well and that’s all I have to say about them boys,” said Karla Doakes.
Doakes has been a resident of NC for over 35 years and is a firm believer in two things: keeping quiet and the right to bear arms. Karla recently followed the boys to their Brookfield hideout where they were revving their bikes in the front yard and cussing. She said she threatened their lives with her 12 gauge and returned home thinking she had solved the problem. Karla’s problem just grew exponentially. In subsequent days the biker boys have singled her out and have terrorized both her and her kids. “I normally like to handle these things with guns but when they ride up into my yard to give my 12 year old daughter beer I have no choice but to call the cops.”
Unfortunately for Karla, thanks to council’s decision to fire all the police in lieu of keeping the swimming pool open, New Carlisle is on an emergency only basis with the county police and giving beer to a kid, regardless of age, doesn’t qualify. To reclaim her quiet town, Karla, and the thousands of other residents being terrorized by this crew, will have to go back to the drawing board.
“Paintball guns, rocks and real guns aren’t working and they just drive around the spike strips so we’ll just have to keep asking God to show us the way on this one.”
