Last month, we hosted a poll to determine who deserves to be on a theoretical Mount Rushmore of New Carlisle natives and figures. You all didn’t disappoint, as hundreds of votes were tallied. Here are the results of the poll, and our professionally commissioned graphic to show you what a Mount Rushmore of New Carlisle might look like.
Tecumseh, the Native American hero and namesake of our local schools, led the voting with a whopping 19.2% of votes. Actor Jason Greear was second with 16.1% of votes. Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Wayne Embry was third (11.9%), followed by notorious bank robber John Dillinger (11.2%).
All nominees received at least 30 votes. Dillinger’s spot wasn’t determined until the day before the poll ended.
Without further ado, here is the artwork we commissioned to simulate what an actual Mount Rushmore style monument would look like in New Carlisle.
I know it’s not realistic to expect New Carlisle to actually sculpt this thing, but how cool would that be if they did? It would be a major tourist attraction. We could integrate festivals, parks, the New Year’s ball drop, and more with this monument.
Thank you all for your support and for voting in this poll. I’m sure those selected would appreciate the honor and recognition. Thanks for making New Carlisle great!
