Professional Symbologist Decodes Bike Trail Graffiti

A report of spray painted graffiti on the New Carlisle bike trail was posted on the popular Facebook group “You Know You’re From New Carlisle If…” this week. Pictures were posted showing symbols and words emblazoned on benches and a concrete rest area.

Main and Lake has reached out to a professor of symbology to try to attach meanings to the defacement and to hopefully provide clues that may lead to the apprehension of the vandal.

New Carlisle Selected for New Texting and Driving Test

New Carlisle isn’t usually the first place lawmakers go to gather data on potential new ordinances, but that may be changing.

On Tuesday New Carlisle was selected by the state of Ohio as the grounds for a new texting and driving test program. Set for a November rollout, the program will allow drivers who live in New Carlisle to apply for a license that will allow them to text message, email, and play games on mobile devices while driving.

Smith Park Flag Pole Cut in Half; Citizens Call for Cameras

Following President Obama’s decree that all flags in America be flown at half-staff to honor four Marines murdered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, it was noticed today that the American flag at New Carlisle’s Smith Park was still atop the flag pole.

Citizens took to the popular Facebook page “You know you’re from New Carlisle if…” to alert city officials to the situation and to inquire as to why the flag wasn’t at half-staff like nearly all other flags in town. Main and Lake has gathered new information that sheds light on why the flag wasn’t at half-staff, as well as more information about local vandals.
